Monsignor Lehodey in Holy Abandonment discusses the three basic foundations, detachment, faith and confidence. Then he proceeds to discuss true love, which is charity. Under detachment, he recommends mortification. We were expecting olympic fasts or some such thing, but he reduces mortification to two inseparable things, humility and obedience. He says that humility cannot exist without obedience. Much could be said about obedience, and Frater’s devotions have discussed the necessity of obedience in the hierarchy of the Church. We will say one thing, that without humble obedience, the Church will not move forward. We need a few good men, who are humble and obedient.
